  • Appropriately placing lighting and selecting the right level of illumination can enhance your ability to see monitor images. For example, if lighting is excessive or causes glare on the monitor screen, you may develop eyestrain or headaches, and may have to work in awkward postures to view the screen. Ventilation and humidity levels in office work environments may affect user comfort and productivity.
  • As a professional blogger who talks about blogging, I get asked fairly often questions related to search engine optimization. Too often, it seems that these bloggers get too immersed into the inane tactics of SEO that they lose sight of the big picture. Search engine optimization is an important field. There is a lot to know and, no doubt, it serves a function. But, let’s jump over to my side of the fence for just a moment. My position is simple. Forget about search engine optimization. Before I get clobbered by all the SEO people out there, let me elaborate. 🙂 Write for people, not search engine spiders. I have managed to do pretty well as a blogger. I make my living at it, in fact. But, it has been pretty rare that I actually had search going through my mind when I wrote a post. I have all but ignored SEO and it doesn’t seem to have had a huge negative impact for me.
  • A handful of bills in state legislatures across the U.S. are creating the biggest legal threat to e-commerce in several years, trade group NetChoice said. NetChoice released its first Internet Advocates' Watchlist for Ugly Laws (iAWFUL) Tuesday, with state legislation making up nine of the 12 bills on the list, and the remaining three bills in the U.S. Congress. Prediction: Google announces Twitter acquisition? The combination of a struggling economy and the move of more activities online has created a major push to regulate the Internet, said Steve DelBianco, executive director of NetChoice. Legislative efforts to regulate the Internet are "more dangerous" now than at any time since the mid-1990s, when there were efforts to restrict Internet content, he said.
  • One of the interesting trends which I noticed recently is to showcase your work in single page design. It’s kind of ironic to see what designers can do with single pages as modern age designers love to experiment with things and observe how people interact with their work. Even though this is not a common trend to follow but still as the new design styles come up, and as more and more designers notice them and make use of them in their work, this kind of trends emerge. In this presentation, you’ll find a variety of highly-creative, beautiful and most importantly inspirational designs which is following the same trend of single page designs. We don’t want you to follow any specific trend as the aim here is to stimulate your creativity and to inspire your imagination to create your own design trend because your website represents you and your brand.

  • Fluid web designs have many benefits, but only if implemented correctly. With proper technique, a design can be seen correctly on large screens, small screens and even tiny PDA screens. With bad coding structure, however, a fluid layout can be disastrous. Because of this, we need to find ways to work around most, if not all, of the cons of fluid design. If you as a designer are going to go through all the extra work of creating a functional fluid layout, why not go a bit further and make it compatible with all resolutions, instead of just most? You can use a few techniques to create an incredibly versatile, adaptive layout that will stay perfectly functional with the constantly changing screen sizes. In this article, we’ll discuss effective techniques to create 100%-functional adaptive CSS-layouts, and provide details on other tutorials and practices.
  • Thirty years ago, American film audiences pressed low in their seats as a massive white wedge of machine parts passed overhead. With the release of George Lucas’s Star Wars, the smooth, silvery flying saucers that had dominated postwar sci-fi became embarrassing reminders of an obsolete vision of the future.1 Lucas envisioned a World of Tomorrow dominated by black, white, and gray;2 hard-edged, massive, and inorganic forms, covered with a salty acne of apparatus. The film’s visual program was a departure from the saucers and occasional capsules writ large that sci-fi audiences had grown accustomed to, but its colorless symmetrical ships should have been recognizable to at least a small portion of its audience—those familiar with contemporary art.3
  • Now that both Batman and Star Trek have enjoyed cinematic reinventions, it's only a matter of time before Hollywood reboots the franchise that rebooted entertainment itself. Here's how the inevitable Star Wars reinvention could be fantastic instead of embarrassing.

  • If you're a local business owner, it's likely that Google plays a role in helping customers find you. And we're not just talking about your website — thanks to Google Maps and Google Search, you may also be getting a lot of online traffic to your business listing. You've probably seen one of these listings before:
  • check out how different words look in all the popular fonts on your computer What is flipping typical? A way to explore the popular typefaces you have on your computer.
  • The fate of Neil and Kazumi Puttick, who committed suicide after the death of their disabled son, touched the nation. Cassandra Jardine meets a couple who lost two daughters but fought on
  • Nowadays, it seems like every celebrity under the sun has an action figure. Corey Feldman just got one, and Cary Elwes has one on the way, and if that isn’t a sign of the apocalypse, I don’t know what is. (Granted, it’s for the long overdue The Princess Bride, but still…Cary Elwes!) But what about the toys that unintentionally resemble celebrities? In its early years, the Star Wars line suffered from a lot of terrible likenesses, and while we couldn’t find any that looked like Cary Elwes (although there were too many who looked like Corey Feldman to count), we did find ten figures that were the spitting images of actors they were absolutely, positively not intended to resemble.
